An afternoon in the Park with Lily

Miss Lily was such a little ball of energy! She was such a little model....

Welcome little Gared! I had the pleasure of shooting this little newborn Friday evening. This little guy was an absolute delight to shoot. He would wake up every once in a awhile when we had to change poses but for the most part he slept through the entire session. I packed up the entire car with props, the heater, my studio lighting, my studio equipment, etc. and had the session at his home to make him as comfortable as possible. Take a look at some of his photos........

I love to shoot my friends!

Nothing is better than being able to shoot friends of mine (with my camera that is!). Pictured below is my best friend Samantha. She has always been my photo "Guinea Pig" whenever I needed to practice a new technique or to brush up on my photography skills. She is such a natural in front of the camera! Here is a peek into yesterday's session.

Hey all!

I know it's been a little while since I last posted anything. Between the busy work schedule, finals for school, and shooting whenever I can...it has been a busy last few months to say the least. My last few sessions have been so much fun and I have experienced so much more as a photographer. I had the honor of shooting the Reyes family for their twins first birthday. Landon and Mikayla were turning the big O-N-E, so Mommy and Daddy wanted a few photos for such a big moment in their little ones lives. I was excited to be taking their photos for such a BIG day!

Camera: Canon EOS Rebel T4i
Lens: Canon EF50mm 1:1.8
Flash: None

This session was defiantly a learning experience for me. I LOVE kids, but you have to have a lot of patience. Even though you have the parents to help you out and you are focused mainly on holding your camera and snapping some great shots, you have to make sure the kids are HAPPY. If the little ones are scared or uncomfortable it is difficult to get those cute and happy "one of a kind photos". It is so important to let the children get to know you first. I recommend sitting and playing with them for a few minutes. Ask the parents what the children like and what makes them laugh. I got to know Landon and Mikayla with just sitting with them for a few minutes. Dad told me Landon likes to answer the telephone. If you pretend to answer the telephone and say "hello", he will do the same thing!

This session was a success! I can't wait till the next Landon and Mikayla session!

Something new at J. Gray Photography!

Today I had an opportunity to take part in a new experience in the photography industry. I had the honor of shooting Charlene for her business. She plans on using the photos for her business cards and marketing materials. I am so thrilled that she decided to have me take her photos. The shoot was set up beside the lake in Town Center (as you can see in the background). The weather was (almost) perfect, if it weren't for the wind! This was a great opportunity for me to gain even more experience in posing, lighting, and exposure.

I used my brand new Canon EOS Rebel T4i for the very first time today. It was so great to finally have a Canon in my hands again. My very first SLR camera was a film Canon EOS Rebel (currently resides in my attic). NOTHING shoots like a Canon. Unfortunately, my Sony is going to be playing back-up from now on.

I am very much looking forward to tomorrow. I will be shooting the Capeheart wedding here in Palm Coast. The wedding will be located off of A1A in the Hammock Dunes area. I have so many ideas rushing through my mind, and hope to try them out tomorrow! I have been researching on Pinterest for some inspirational photos to guide me a little during the course of the wedding. I'll let you all know how it goes, so stay tuned! :-)
